ng-kim-teanKim Tean is one of the first few in Singapore to be registered as a Singaporean Registered Patent Attorney. He holds a B.Eng. degree majoring in Electronics and Electrical Engineering and a LL.B. (Honours) degree from the University of London. Kim Tean is also qualified as a Barrister-at-law of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, London and is an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore.

Kim Tean has extensive experience in Intellectual Property, Commercial and Corporate law and the inter-relationships therebetween. He has been exposed to all aspects of prosecution and management of IP portfolios including Patents, Trade Marks, Registered Designs, Domain Names, Trade Secret and Confidential Information in Singapore and various other foreign jurisdictions in the Asia-Pacific Region.

He has served on the Committee of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association and was President of the Singapore Inventors’ Development Association. He is a Part-time Lecturer at Nanyang Technological University and an Adjunct Faculty to the Singapore Management University. He is a member of the Examination Committee for the Singapore Patent Agents’ Qualifying Examination. He is a regular speaker at local and International Conferences and a contributor to articles, publications and books on Intellectual Property.

Some of his significant, recent matters include a Patent infringement matter involving a portable data storage device; a Patent infringement action concerning a packaging device; advising a China-based company on Singaporean law for its admission to trading on the AIM Market operated by the London Stock Exchange; and advising a multi-disciplinary engineering company on its admission to trading on the Singapore OTC Capital. On the commercial and corporate side, Kim Tean has advised in relation to research collaborative agreements, joint venture agreements, technology licensing agreements, VC investment agreements and on memoranda of understanding.

Kim Tean is a Member of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA), Association of Singapore Patent Agents (ASPA), the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, the Law Society of Singapore, the Singapore Academy of Law, Licensing Executives Society (LES), Innovators and Entrepreneurs Association, and Singapore Inventor’s Development Association.
